There are two types of certified true copies:
- By the government agency that issued the original document; and
- A traditional certified copy, which is a photocopy of a document that is certified by a notary public;
The original and copy will be carefully compared by the notary. They will check and certify the document as a legitimate copy by date, stamping, and signing it once they are confident it is a true copy.
However, before submitting your certified copy, you should verify with the appropriate authority because they can be asked to provide colour copies to help prove the validity.
